NEW: Harare develops disaster risk management for Kuwadzana

The acting head of policy, corporate strategy and grants, Mr Amos Muguti, said starting Monday next week, the city is expected to start visiting the industrial areas and major shopping centres.

HARARE Metropolitan Province, in partnership with the City of Harare and Goal Zimbabwe, on Wednesday held a disaster risk reduction, evaluation and planning workshop in Kuwadzana as part of the city’s plan to develop a disaster risk management plan for the district.

In a statement, the City of Harare said objectives of the workshop were to have a shared understanding of disaster risks and strengthen institutional capacity for stakeholders involved in disaster planning, management and mitigation.

It said the workshop was also meant to “unpack measures being implemented risks and identify challenges encountered and proffer appropriate solutions for the reduction of disaster risks”.

The local authority added that other objectives were to strengthen district resilience initiatives for effective disaster risk reduction and management.

Harare Metropolitan Province is seeking to use Kuwadzana as a pilot to come up with new district strategic emergency preparedness and response plan for 2022 to 2025, which will be incorporated into the City Emergency Preparedness Plan.
