HEAVY rains are expected across the country starting today, with downpours exceeding 50mm, the Meteorological Services Department (MSD) has said.
In a statement on Friday, MSD warned the public against sheltering under trees or in isolated places.
“A cloud band coupled with moisture from the southeast coast of Southern Africa is expected to enhance heavy rainfall over all Matabeleland and Masvingo provinces from April 6 to April 9, 2024.
“Heavy rainfall exceeding 50mm in 24 hours is probable. From the 10th and the 11th of April, the cloud band should move eastward and cover much of the country,” said MSD.
“Localised downpours are probable in some places. As it moves further eastward rainfall should cover just the Mashonaland provinces by Friday 12 April.”
Hazards to watch out for during this period include lightning, strong winds and localised hailstorms.
