AFTER securing a place in the semi-final of the Chibuku Super Cup, Herentals are daring to dream and want to represent Zimbabwe in the African Safari by winning the domestic football top-flight’s only club knock-out competition. Herentals needed a last-gasp winner in their quarter-final tie against Manica Diamonds at the National Sports Stadium on Saturday.
The Students now face holders FC Platinum in the semi-final scheduled for October 15.
Herentals coach Kumbirai Mutiwekuziva said although FC Platinum are favourites, they have their own objectives to achieve.
With the league title out of their reach, the gaffer believes the Chibuku Super Cup is the only route to represent Zimbabwe in continental football.
Winners of the Chibuku Super Cup will get the ticket to play in the CAF Confederation Cup.
“We are hoping of becoming a giant in the future, and this is a stepping stone towards our objective.
“It is a good milestone for the club, and we are hoping the team continues to grow and establish ourselves as a powerhouse of club competition football,” he said.
“This is a very important cup game and our shortcut to international football, which is everyone’s dream to play in the African Safari, and we believe with hard work we can achieve our objective.”
FC Platinum, who beat Dynamos 4-2 on penalties on Sunday, are favourites among the remaining four teams.
The other semi-final will pit Black Rhinos and Bulawayo Chiefs.
