NEW: Police hunt for escaped Lalapanzi prisoner

A 23-year-old man, Peter Sigauke, who was serving a four-year jail term for robbery escaped from prison in Lalapanzi, Midlands Province, on Monday.

The escapee’s whereabouts are still unknown and police have launched a manhunt for him.

In a statement on Thursday, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) said the hunt is on for Sigauke.

“Police in Gweru are appealing for information which may lead to the arrest of Peter Sigauke (23) in connection with a case of escaping from prison in Lalapanzi on September 19, 2022.

“The suspect was serving 48 months’ imprisonment for plain robbery.”
