NEW: Herentals to honor players

Online Reporter

Herentals, which boasts four professional football teams, will on Thursday reward their outstanding players for the 2021/2022 season.

Having been voted the best player by the fans for the 2021/2022 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League season and soccer star finalist, Tinotenda Benza, is expected to be the biggest winner when Herentals holds its year-end awards.

All of the four clubs under the Herentals stable had an outstanding season, with its flagship side – Herentals FC – making it all the way to the final of the 2022 Chibuku Super Cup tournament.

Known as ‘The Students’ in the Premier League, Herentals lost by one-nil to Bulawayo Chiefs in that final.

Herentals’ women’s team Herentals Queens, which plies their trade in the Zimbabwe women’s Soccer League, were crowned champions, while the club’s division one side finished second in the Zifa Northern Region Soccer League.

They missed out on promotion into the Premier Soccer League (PSL).

Club chairperson, Tafadzwa Benza confirmed the award ceremony, describing the 2021/2022 season as one of the best seasons for the institution.

“Yes, it’s true that Herentals College FC is awarding its best performers on Thursday, and it is a day we want to celebrate all the hard work that has been put in by everyone this season,” said Benza.

“It has been a hugely successful season for us as an institution, and this is in spite of missing out on the Chibuku Super Cup Trophy, and our division one side failing to win their title right at the end.

“All teams performed way above expectations, especially our Herentals Queens, who won the league cup. It was a huge milestone for them, and us as an institution,” said Benza.
