The number of road traffic accidents experienced during the Heroes Day and Defence Forces Day holidays dropped to 106 this year compared to 157 recorded over the same period last year.

“Speeding, inattention, misjudgement, reversing and overtaking errors were the major cause of these accidents,” said police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi in a statement.

Of the 106 accidents, only three were fatal, claiming three lives.

Last year, there were 11 fatal accidents, which resulted in 20 deaths.
