As Zimbabwe enters 2025, achieving the ambitious goals outlined in Vision 2030 will require a significant push towards innovation across all sectors of the economy.

The Consumer Council of Zimbabwe (CCZ) chief executive director Mrs Rosemary Mpofu made these remarks in her New Year message to consumers.

She said innovation is not just desirable, but essential for the country to realise its aspirations of becoming an upper-middle-income economy.

“Innovation must be the rule of the day for every sector.

“It is no longer enough to simply maintain the status quo. We need to embrace new technologies, develop new products and services, and find more efficient and sustainable ways of doing things,” said Mrs Mpofu.

She highlighted the need for a shift towards a more knowledge-based economy, driven by research and development and the commercialisation of innovative ideas.

This, Mrs Mpofu said, would not only boost economic growth but also create new jobs and improve the quality of life for all Zimbabweans.

“We need to see a tangible shift towards an innovation-driven economy.

“This means investing in education and skills development, fostering a culture of entrepreneurship, and creating an enabling environment for businesses to thrive.

“We need to leverage technology to improve productivity, enhance efficiency, and deliver better services to our citizens,” she said.
