FARMERS in Manicland have been urged to invest in irrigation infrastructure in the face of changing climate.

The province has been experiencing dry spells and erratic rainfall patterns over the recent past seasons.

Provincial Agritex officer Mrs Philipa Rwambiwa said properly mechanised and viable irrigation infrastructure is crucial in sustaining agribusiness in the province.

“Irrigation infrastructure is important in aiding agricultural operations. This will also help in cushioning farmers from the vagaries of climate change and its effects. Farmers, therefore, need to have a mechanised irrigation system for their agribusiness,” she said.

Meanwhile, the Government is implementing the smallholder irrigation revitalisation programme as a long-term plan to adapt to climate change effects.
