NEW: JBC takes huge stride towards title

JBC moved one step closer to clinching the Harare Basketball Association (HBA) Super Six League title after easing past Foxes 84-67 at the City Sports Centre on Thursday.

Tatenda Tswatswa top-scored for the title favourites with 23 points, four rebounds and a steal, while Tashinga Chiimba and Roland Changara chipped in with 14 and 13 points, respectively.

On the other end, Chris Tsvarai finished with a team-high 15 points, three rebounds and an assist for the Kelvin Ben-coached Foxes, while Kudakwashe Pote and Warren Tegama finished with 13 and 12 points, respectively.

The victory also saw JBC maintain their perfect run, making it 20 victories from 20 matches to take their points tally to 40 points.

Leopards Academy are second with 32 points from 21 games, while Bucs and Harare City Hornets are third and fourth, respectively, although tied on 30 points.

Foxes (29) and UZ Stars (24) occupy the relegation spots.

In the other match played on Thursday, women’s log leaders Vixens beat Harare City Hornets 42-38 to create some breathing room between them and second-placed UZ Sparks.

Vixens, unbeaten in 18 games, are 39 points from 21 matches, while UZ Sparks have 35 points from their 20 matches.

Hornets and JBC women are tied on 28 points from 20 and 19 matches, respectively.

The two teams currently occupy the third and fourth spots.

Greenstars (25) and Bunnies occupy the relegation spots in the women’s division.
