Over 3 209 vehicles were impounded in Harare so far this year, for various traffic offenses during a joint operation between City of Harare and Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) to ease congestion in the capital, Local Government, Public Works and National Housing Minister July Moyo has said.

Minister Moyo said this at the launch of the City of Harare Traffic officers training programme on Wednesday morning.

He said law enforcement officers are the face of the city and should represent the brand with honour.

“There are a number of factors causing congestion in the City that includes illegal structures along the roads, vendors encroaching into the roads, illegal pirate taxis (mshika-shika),” said Minister Moyo.

“The joint operations between City of Harare and ZRP culminated in the impounding of 3 209 vehicles with various traffic offenses.”

Minister Moyo said all public transport will be branded ZUPCO including trains plying urban routes as way of curbing traffic offenses.
