GOVERNMENT appreciates religious institutions that invest in key socio-economic services such as education and health as they are playing a part in uplifting the lives of people, a Cabinet minister has said.

Speaking at the centenary celebrations of Katsenga Adventist Primary School in Makoni West recently Information Communication Technologies and Courier Services Minister, Dr Jenfan Muswere, commended the Seventh Day Adventist Church for setting up the mission school at Katsenga Village way back in 1923.

Dr Muswere, who is also the legislator for the constituency, emphasised that education is a pillar of a nation building and its economic prosperity is hinged on a literate populace.

He said Government will continue to invest heavily in the sector and doors are wide open for private players and churches to establish learning institutions.

“As we celebrate this milestone achievement by Katsenga Primary School, let me reiterate that Government appreciates religious institutions such as the Seventh Day Adventist Church for their role in setting up schools across the country”

“Education is the heartbeat of the country. Government, working together with churches, continues to build infrastructure that is conducive for learners and teachers. Zimbabwe is importing some products and services because we lack the know-how to produce them; so this should push us to invest more resources in education”.

“We call upon former pupils not to turn their backs on the school that provided them with a platform to launch their careers. As the Member of Parliament, I am going to upgrade the road that leads to the school so that it becomes trafficable. I am also going to set up a state-of-the-art computer lab that will bring learners here at par with their counterparts in urban schools,” said Minister Muswere.

Zimbabwe East Conference of the Seventh Day Adventist Church president, Pastor Alexander Chinoshava, said his church will continue supporting Government on education initiatives.

“As the Seventh Day Adventist Church, our role is to support Government initiatives in as far education is concerned. We own around 50 schools in Zimbabwe East Conference and most them are in Manicaland Province. We offer unique education that educates the mind and the heart as well as train the hand. We emphasise on the practicality of education.

“Our education model is in tandem with the Government’s Education 5.0. As we celebrate 100 years of Katsenga Primary School’s existence, we are reflecting on our achievements that include producing many giants who are excelling in different facets of life. We are happy that we have also produced patriotic and hardworking citizens,” said Pastor Chinoshava.

Katsenga Primary headmaster Mr Emmanuel Sauti urged the school’s former learners, led by ex-Manica Post general manager Dr Bernard Mabika to plough back to the learning institution that moulded them.
