Online Reporter

THE Kilimanjaro Project has started yielding results, with the fully planted segments of 562 hectares already showing good yields, sugar producer Hippo Valley Estates has said.

The Kilimanjaro Project is an empowerment project being implemented by Hippo Valley Estates, its sister company, Triangle Limited, and Government.

The 562 hectares, which are currently under production, are part of the 700 hectares that the Government has so far allocated to beneficiaries.

The entire scope of the Kilimanjaro Project is 4 000 hectares.

Said Hippo Valley in a trading update on Thursday:

“Harvesting of the 562 hectares fully planted is in progress with some very good yields being realised, whilst the balance of 138 hectares is currently being planted to complete the Empowerment Block.”

Meanwhile, the company said progress is being made on addressing the land tenure issues that had stalled the development of the remaining area.
