Leaders of Kyokushin karate will meet at Les Brown Swimming Complex on Saturday for a seminar aimed at uniting a sport that has long been riddled by division and infighting.
The seminar is the brainchild of Shihan Tendai Marange, who many regard as the godfather of Kyokushin karate in Zimbabwe.
The event is expected to attract leaders of the many Kyokushin styles in the country.
At least 60 participants are expected.
“The idea is that we are trying to unite all the different styles in Zimbabwe, regardless of their semi- or full-contact nature, and we just talk, share ideas and maybe unite the disciplines,” said Marange.
“It’s a first of its kind in both Zimbabwe and Africa, and we want to make it an annual thing,” he said.
The seminar is being sponsored by Robson Muromba, a Kyokushin fighter and trainer.
However, the organisers are still open to more partners coming on board.
“We are looking to have many sponsors who will buy the idea, which is about bringing people together,” added Shihan Marange.
