Traditional healers under the umbrella of the Zimbabwe National Practitioners Association (ZINPA) yesterday elected Cuthbert Nyaruvenda as president.
Nyaruvenda, who practices both faith and traditional healing, takes over from Sekuru Friday Chisanyu, the association’s founding president who passed away early this year.
ZINPA, which is licensed by the Traditional Medical Practitioners Council (TMPC) under the Ministry of Health and Child Care, represents the interests of traditional and faith healers, traditional birth attendants, midwives and herbalists.
It boasts a membership of 3 000.
Mbuya Sarudzai Jaravaza, a traditional healer based in Mbare, and Joachim Nyamande, a herbalist, were elected the association’s vice presidents.
In his acceptance speech, Nyaruvenda preached unity.
“Our late founding president was not only a visionary but also a unifier. I promise to work hard and carry on the good work which was initiated by our late leader,” he said.
The late Sekuru Chisanyu was the first traditional healer to chair the TMPC and had transformed both traditional and faith healing.
