NINETEEN-year-old Livingstone Sunhwa’s skeletal remains have been laid to rest at Dangamvura Cemetery this afternoon.

Multitudes of mourners, including MDC-T president and Polad member, Mr Douglas Mwonzora and other politicians attended the burial to show solidarity with the family and give Livingstone a befitting burial.

St Matthias Tsonzo High School authorities and learners were not present at the funeral and burial, thereby infuriating the bereaved mourners.

In an unsolicited interview on the sidelines of the burial, Livingstone’s uncle, Mr Wakinsi Njunga said for the school to fail to show up for the burial is complete disrespect to the family and the deceased.

“What happened at the school is pure evil and we will keep demanding justice for Livingstone. We were honestly not expecting anyone from the school to show up because all along they never showed any care that our child was missing. This is a school run by a church and it just shocked us that the responsible authority never contacted us or made any follow-ups but we had little hope that they would make it here today to at least say goodbye to Livingstone,” he said.

The burial follows the DNA results that recently concluded that the skeletal remains that were found in the St Matthias Tsonzo school yard, six months after Livingstone’s disappearance, were his.

The burial took place although his palms and feet are yet to be found.

Livingstone was last seen at the school on December 6 last year, and his remains were found on June 24 at a nearby stream in the school yard.

In an interview, Livingstone’s mother, Ms Selina Tadya said she is still finding it difficult to come to terms with the fact that her son is gonee and that she will continue seeking justice over his death.

“I do not think that I will ever recover from his death. Livingstone was a respectful child with whom I had faith in and loved. All I pray for is that the relevant authorities deliver justice towards my son’s death which was under unclear circumstances,” she said.

Meanwhile, Senator Mwonzora pledged that as a lawyer, he will do all he can to see that justice for Livingstone is found.

“With the experience I have with the powers that be in Zimbabwe, justice in matters like these will always find its course. I believe the responsible authorities will do all they can to ensure that the family gets closure to the case,” he said.
