THE Zimbabwe Association of Dairy Farmers has invited the Botswana Vaccine Institute (BVI) to its expo and annual general meeting (AGM) that will be held in Harare on July 22-23.
In a statement released last week, BVI said its chief executive officer Mr Andrew Madeswi had been invited to address the AGM on the role of institute “in supporting regional FMD (foot-and-mouth disease) control efforts”.
The expo will be graced by the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development.
“Recognising BVI’s position in livestock vaccine production and contribution to disease control and management, including support to the dairy sector, the Zimbabwe Association of Diary Farmers has invited BVI to participate at their expo and AGM,” said BVI in a statement.
“Madeswi will share insights in BVI’s success story as a World Health Organisation for Animal Health reference laboratory as well as issues of compliance to quality standards in the pharmaceutical sector. BVI veterinary experts will further participate at a dairy school field day where they will give practical presentations on FMD vaccine handling, cold chain maintenance and vaccination technique.”
Local milk production rose by 2,6 percent to 28 million litres in the first three months of this year, up from 27,3 million litres in the same period last year, driven by improved pastures and an expanding dairy herd, according to figures from the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development.
