Afro Empire Dance Studio, a Mbare-based dance group, is on a mission to showcase local dance moves to Asian and Middle East audiences.

Founded by Divvone Musendekwa and Terrence Chete in 2017, the group is interested in touring China and Saudi Arabia.

The well-traveled group has in the past performed in Poland, the United Kingdom, Germany and Sweden, among other European countries.

Said Musendekwa: “We noted that many African artistes perform at music festivals in Saudi Arabia. We want to take part in some of these festivals.”

According to the youthful dancer, the Chinese have shown an active interest in learning about local dances.

Apart from performing, the group is also aiming at teaching Zimbabwean dances to the Chinese.
