THREE transporters and 11 suspected drug dealers, who were arrested on Monday for possessing unregistered medicines worth thousands of dollars, are set to appear at the Harare Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.
The suspects, including Justice Nyika (42), Prosper Maphosa (37), Clarence Ncube (27), Brenda Sango (35), Rumbidzai Chinyamakobvu (38), Melany Gutsire (39), Charles Kakomwe (34), Rufaro Munyanyi (42), Ephiphania Norest Moyo (43), Beauty Madamombe (52), Mascline Dziva (47), Tafadzwa Makwarimba (36), Portia Chimombe (38) and Tambudzai Shoko (37), were caught after a tip-off about a suspicious truck travelling from Bulawayo to Chinhoyi.
The truck, with registration number AFG 3713, was intercepted in Murombedzi, Zvimba.
Justice Nyika, the driver and his assistants — Prosper Maphosa and Clarence Ncube — were arrested.
The trio implicated the other suspects arrested in Braeside, Harare.
Police investigations revealed that the 11 suspects were the intended recipients of the consignment.
The arrests led to the seizure of 815 boxes of Broncleer cough syrup, 77 boxes of Benylin cough syrup, 162 boxes of Adeo Salteryn cough syrup and 44 boxes of Astrapane cough syrup.
Police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi commended the public for providing information that led to the arrests.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police applauds the public for supplying positive information which led to the arrest of the suspects,” he said.
