LOWER Sixth classes commence today countrywide, with schools across Manicaland Province taking in learners as borders were expected to have travelled to their respective learning institutions at the weekend.
The commencement of Lower Sixth classes flows the release of Ordinary Level results last week.
In an interview, Manicaland provincial education director Mr Edward Shumba said most schools in the province were ready to start lessons today.
He said the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education is reminding school authorities as well as parents and guardians that tuition or boarding fees will be paid on a pro-rata basis to the approved First Term fees for the respective schools.
“Schools in Manicland are ready to start Lower Sixth classes and all heads have been informed through the offices of the district schools inspectors by a circular that came from the head office to that effect. We are now implementing that. Our office has not received any adverse reports and we are not expecting any disruptions on the commencement of classes and in the learning process,” said Mr Shumba.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education has said three subjects suffice for Advanced Level and in cases where some see the need then they could go for four.
This comes in the light of a recent trend where some learners were taking a lot of subjects.
Spokesperson Mr Taungana Ndoro said teachers are reminded that paid-for extra lessons were illegal and those found carrying them out would be charged with criminal abuse of office.
However, in cases where teachers feel the need for extended tutorials, they can have these but the extra time should include the whole class and should be at no extra cost.
