NEW: Mabaya impresses in Liverpool debut

ZIMBABWEAN defender, Isaac Mabaya, grabbed attention on his senior debut for English Premier League giants, Liverpool FC on Tuesday.

According to Liverpool Echo, Mabaya impressed during a 30-minute cameo against Manchester United, in a friendly match in Thailand.

The publication revealed that a number of Liverpool fans took to social media to express their delight at Mabaya’s performance against Manchester United during the pre-season game.

The 17-year-old right-back, who was a regular member of Marc Bridge-Wilkinson’s under-18s side, was handed his first senior start by manager, Jurgen Klopp, for the fixture in the Bangkok Century Cup against the Reds’ arch-rivals, Manchester United.

Despite making a mistake for Jadon Sancho’s opening goal, after he failed to properly clear the ball, the youngster received heaps of praise on social media as he showed signs of promise with his bursting runs down the channel, and an impressive block to deny Marcus Rashford from close range.

Some fans who tweeted soon after Liverpool’s 4-0 loss believe Mabaya has quality.

Others think he can rise to become a fine player.

Mabaya is one of a number of England-based Zimbabweans who are being touted to be the backbone of the next Warriors generation, when the country is readmitted into international football by FIFA. – Online Reporter/Liverpool Echo
