NEW: Madagascar President Andry Rajoelina in Zimbabwe for SADC

Madagascar’s President Andry Rajoelina has arrived at the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport ahead of the SADC Heads of State and Government Summit tomorrow.

Madagascar was admitted as a SADC member state at the 25th SADC Summit held in Gaborone, Botswana, on August 17 -18, 2005.

It undertook to implement regional integration programmes, particularly opening up of the market to facilitate trade and investment.

With a total area of 587 040 square kilometres, Madagascar is the fourth-largest island in the world.

It is situated 400km off the east coast of Africa, separated from the mainland by the Mozambique channel.

Madagascar has a population of 29,61 million.

Malagasy and French are the official languages of Madagascar.

As of 2022, Madagascar’s official estimated gross domestic product (GDP) was US$15,3 billion.
