NICHOLAS “Madzibaba” Zakaria is set to launch his 29th album next month.
The album launch will coincide with the veteran singer’s 66th birthday on April 9.
However, the timing is interesting.
Madzibaba’s new project “Musabvunda” will come a few weeks ahead of Alick Macheso’s yet-to-be-titled album that will be released on June 10.
Macheso, or simply Baba Sharo, is Madzibaba’s protégé and they once worked together at Khiama Boys.
However, Baba Sharo later left to form Orchestra Mberikwazvo.
Since then, his group has risen to become one of the most sought after in the country.
Madzibaba has maintained standards, and is still doing well 40 years after forming Khiama Boys.
Speaking in an interview with The Sunday Mail Online, Madzibaba said he was not worried about his “student’s” forthcoming project.
“I’m very optimistic that our new five-track project will flourish on the market, never mind Macheso’s new album. We have a strong fan base, which will make our project prevail,” said Madzibaba.
Tracks making up “Musabvunda” include “Mabasa”, “Alamu”, “Pedyo na Mwari,” “Ndijesu” and “Pasi Rachena.”
Macheso’s camp said they are happy to see Madzibaba launch a new project.
“This is a milestone achievement for sungura. Macheso is really happy to see his mentor doing good for the genre.
“We wish him all the best and hope this will keep the sungura flame burning,” said Macheso’s manager and publicist, Tich Makahamadze.
