THE Bulawayo City Council (BCC) has availed land for the construction of magistrates’ courts in Cowdray Park and Nkulumane suburbs.

This follows an application by the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) for land to construct the two magistrates’ courts.

The development is contained in the latest council report.

“The Acting Director of Town Planning had reported to the Town Lands and Planning Committee that an application had been received from the Judicial Service Commission, Provincial Magistrate’s office, seeking land on which to construct magistrates’ courts,” reads the report.

The Cowdray Park stand is located in Cowdray Park Phase 4 near Hlalani Kuhle area while the Nkulumane stand is Stand Number 16925.

“The City Valuer recommended that the land to establish magistrates’ courts in Cowdray Park and Nkulumane were both subject to 10 percent commonage with a minimum building clause of  200m2 each. The Town Lands and Planning Committee had recommended to this Committee that the two stands are sold to the Judicial Service Commission for the purposes of establishing a Magistrates Courts at the City Valuer’s recommendation,” says the report.

Bulawayo currently has two magistrates’ courts, the Bulawayo Magistrates Courts housed at Tredgold Building in the city centre and the Western Commonage Courts in Mpopoma suburb. — @themkhust
