ZIMBABWE Chess Federation (ZCF) has received a major boost from the International Federation Chess (FIDE), following a donation of state-of-the-art chess sets and electronic boards.
FIDE donated 50 tournament chess sets and eight DGT Electronic Boards Sets, a move which has been described by the ZCF acting president, Mucha Mkanganwi, as a major boost in the development of chess in the country.
“This equipment will go a long way in helping the federation take chess to new heights,” said Mkanganwi.
“We have for years longed to have such technology at our tournaments, and finally we have it.
“This certainly triggers a new age in our chess, and I am sure we will have more of such boards and clocks in the months to come.”
F ZCF has extended five chess sets, and one DGT Electronic Set, to their former president, Collen Tongowona.
The 10-member team, which represented Zimbabwe at the 44th Chess Olympiad held in India last month, was also given a chess set each, as a souvenir.
DGT Electronic Boards are technologically advanced chess boards whose function is to broadcast chess matches live on the internet.
They are used at high level tournaments.
