A 23-year-old man from Honde Valley was yesterday sentenced to 15 years by a Mutare magistrate for raping a 48-year-old woman.
A press statement issued by the National Prosecuting Authority revealed that: “On the 26th of October 2023, around 0145 hours in Mupotedzi village, the accused person went to the complainant’s residence and knocked on the door. The accused person identified himself as Ray.
“When the woman opened the door, the accused person grabbed her and forced her to the ground. They wrestled until he overpowered her.”
The accused person raped the complainant once, before fleeing the scene.
His victim sought refuge at her brother’s house and later reported the incident to the police, resulting in the accused person’s arrest.
