THE late national hero, Dr Christopher Chindoti Mushohwe, has been described as a God-fearing leader who was passionate, not only about national development issues, but the well-being of his United Methodist Church (UMC).
Dr Mushohwe died on Monday after a lengthy illness that left him bedridden for more than three years.
The late national hero’s body, which was accompanied by his wife, Mrs Penelope Mushohwe and ZANU PF national secretary for finance, Cde Patrick Chinamasa, was today flown to and from his rural Marange home to allow his kinsmen to pay their last respects to the former Mutare West legislator.
Speaker after speaker during a funeral parade held today at his Chindoti Village home in Marange, described Dr Mushohwe as a God-fearing leader who played a big role in assisting the smooth flow of pastoral work in the UMC.

Cde Chinamasa said: “Apart from his passion for infrastructural development, Dr Mushohwe was passionate about the well-being of his United Methodist Church. Each time we visited his home, we would hear that pastor so and so has just left. Dr Mushohwe was a God-fearing leader whose love for the church was evident.”
A representative of the UMC, Reverend Preston Majoni spoke about how Dr Mushohwe assisted in the construction of houses for pastors in the church.
“We will always remember Dr Mushohwe for his love for the church. He was instrumental in the construction of pastors’ houses and also contributed towards their welfare. We will greatly miss him,” he said.
Dr Mushohwe’s body will lie in state at his Borrowdale home in Harare tonight ahead of his burial at the national shrine tomorrow.
