MANICA Diamonds Juniors’ quest for a fruitful second half of the season in the ZIFA Eastern Region Division One received a huge boost following their 1-0 victory over former Premiership side Masvingo United in a match played at Mutare Showgrounds on Sunday.
Fortune Munemo netted from the penalty spot five minutes shy of full-time to hand the youthful side only their third win of the campaign.
Coach Hibron “Adhala Chommiey” Makukutu’s charges remain in 14th position with 13 points from 15 matches.
Makukutu said Sunday’s victory was crucial and provides the team with a perfect tonic for the league’s return legs.
“The win is a huge morale booster as we prepare for the second half the season. We desperately needed that victory as we have been playing very well but only failing to convert the chances we created,” he said.
Elsewhere, second-placed Tenax kept pressure on log leaders FC Wangu Mazodze following their 2-0 win away at JM Busha 54.
Buffaloes climbed into third position after getting the better of Chiredzi Stars 1-0 in their own backyard.
