MUTARE City Council has resorted to deploying water bowsers across the city as a water demand management strategy in the face of shortages of the precious commodity following a breakdown of one of the major transmission lines.

Most suburbs in Mutare endured a dry weekend after supply was affected when the faulty 700mm clear water transmission line resulted in reduced delivery to Christmas Pass balancing tanks.

City of Mutare spokesperson, Mr Spren Mutiwi said their engineers and technicians are working on restoring normal service.

He said they are expecting an improvement in water supply to the city from tomorrow.

“City of Mutare has recorded a breakdown of the 700mm clear water transmission line, resulting in reduced delivery of water to Christmas Pass balancing tanks and thus affecting city-wide supply. Our engineers and technicians have already mobilised materials and equipment required to carry out the repair works.

“In the meantime, we are deploying bowsers to provide relief to residents as a water management strategy in order to achieve equitable distribution. By tomorrow, we are expecting the situation to improve,” said Mr Mutiwi.

He urged residents and stakeholders to conserve water and use it sparingly during this period.
