A new medical aid cover for farmers is on the cards as Government moves to cushion them against the high cost of accessing health care among other benefits.

The scheme, Agricultural Medical Aid Society (Agrimed) is a brainchild of the Grain Marketing Board and will be rolled out in conjunction with CBZ Holdings and Nyaradzo Funeral Services.

Schemes under the Agrimed include Agri Wellness that will provide solutions for a healthy lifestyle, Medpen, a medical aid with pension cover, Medsure, a medical aid with insurance cover and Medfun, a medical aid with funeral cover.

Speaking at a pre-launch dinner of Agrimed, Deputy Minister of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Resettlement, Vangelis Haritatos, hailed the GMB efforts to protect farmers.

“These efforts are very much aligned with our own drive as Government to canvas for improved health care. Our continued fight against HIV and Aids, cancer and the more recent Covid19 cannot be downplayed,” he said.

The schemes would be available to all farming communities from communal, A1 and A2 farmers. The medical aid society will be officially launched soon.
