The Miss Zimbabwe Trust will today hold a function to select another beauty queen to replace Miss Thabiso Phiri who resigned last week under controversial circumstances. The new Miss Zim will be selected from contestants who made it to the top eight at the pageant that took place on June 14.
Miss Phiri had served for slightly over a month when she quit, amid speculation that her decision was influenced by the leaking of compromising pictures that she sent to her boyfriend which have gone viral.
“According to the rules and regulations of the Miss Zimbabwe Trust which conform to the standards and practices of Miss World, a vacancy in the Miss World title is not filled by automatic succession by the next princess in line,” said the Trust in a press statement.
The Trust said a replacement had to be found early since a name should be submitted to the Miss World pageant before the deadline this week.
“The selection will be done under a strict, fair and transparent process that will be overseen by Grant Thornton and Camelsa Accountants and Auditors, and will be conducted by a new panel of judges that include Dr Christina Grabowska, Dr Viviek Solanki, Mr Adam Molai, Mr Tinashe Tanyanyiwa and Honourable Supa Mandiwanzira,” said the Trust.
The Miss Zimbabwe Trust continued to evade the question on the reasons behind Phiri’s resignation, which has sparked speculation from Zimbabweans with interest in the pageant.
The Miss Zimbabwe pageant was held publicly and screened live on ZBC, a move that aroused the interest of many Zimbabweans who are eager to know the fate of the beauty queen who was crowned in June.
