THE ongoing mobile registration blitz aimed at issuing birth and deaths certificates as well as national identity cards has brought relief to villagers in the Tsikirire area of Vumba after they obtained the important documents.
Government rolled out the exercise in April in line with National Development Strategy (NDS1) and targeted to issue two million documents across the country.
The mobile registration blitz will run until September 30 and is expected to clear the backlog which accumulated during the Covid-19 national lockdowns as the Civil Registry Department was only processing burial orders.
A local traditional leader, Mr Charles Binali hailed the exercise, saying it had hugely benefited local communities.
“Since the inception of the exercise in our area, villagers responded positively. Many obtained the important documents with ease, especially birth and death certificates. While some had gone for many years without identity cards, they were finally issued some. The benefits have been immense as learners can also now sit their school examinations with the proper and fully required documents,” said Mr Binali.
The mobile registration exercise has benefited several thousands others across Manicaland Province.
It is also providing citizens with an opportunity to obtain national identity documents to enable them to register as voters for next year’s harmonised elections.
