ABBA Fadzai Kapito, a Zimbabwean-born and United Kingdom-based model who was recently selected as one of the Miss Africa Great Britain finalists, is passionate about raising awareness on how to prevent teenage pregnancies in Zimbabwe.
The pageant was formed with the sole purpose of giving young African girls born or living in the United Kingdom a platform to showcase, not only their beauty, but most importantly their culture, talent and creativity.
The winner becomes a goodwill ambassador for the pageant and will be charged with designing and implementing a charity programme based on her pageant platform.
A social worker, who works in the mental health system, Abba says winning the Miss Africa Great Britain title will open doors for her.
‘’Winning this will open doors for me to raise awareness campaigns to prevent teenage pregnancies.
If selected, I will advocate for the inclusion of mandatory sex education in Zimbabwean schools,” the Harare-born model said.
She, however, bemoaned lack of support from a section of Zimbabwean bloggers.
“I recently posted my photos on social media platforms and explained my vision. The response that I got shocked me.
“Instead of supporting and encouraging me, some of my countrymen poured scorn on my vision,” Abba said.
Despite the setbacks, Abba is not giving up.
“My advice to young females out there is that they must not look back. I encourage them to chase their dreams. They will get there,” she said.
