A DELEGATION from Mozambique, headed by Manica Province governor Madame Francisca Domingos Tomas, will grace Manicaland provincial Independence Day celebrations to be held at Sakubva Stadium tomorrow.
Manicaland Secretary for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Mr Edgars Seenza confirmed that Madame Tomas and her delegation will arrive in the country today.
Mr Seenza said having the Mozambican delegation for the Uhuru commemorations is symbolic as the neighbouring country shares a common history with Zimbabwe dating back to the days of the liberation struggle.
“All is set for the provincial Independence celebrations to be held at Sakubva Stadium tomorrow. A delegation form Mozambique, led by Manica Province governor Madame Francisca Domingos Tomas, will join us for the commemorations.
“This is symbolic in the sense that the two countries have a lot in common like culture, tradition and language since the days of the liberation war to attain independence. Our freedom fighters were also hosted at the Chimoio base in Manica and this was significant during the struggle,” he said.
Mr Seenza said several churches have also been invited for the Uhuru celebrations.
He added that following President Mnangagwa’s lead to decentralise Independence Day commemorations, plans are on course for the provincial celebrations to be hosted in other districts.
