Godfrey Tsuro – Nguva
Gospel musician Godfrey Tsuro and his group Heaven Ambassadors have released a second eight-track album titled “Nguva”. The album also features popular gospel diva Bethany Pasinawako who is on the backing vocals.
Tsuro, who recently tied the knot with his sweetheart Moreblessing who is also a backing vocalist in the album, said he ventured into music to preach the gospel.
“Music is my passion. It is another way of preaching the word of God to people and make them repent and follow the good ways that God so much desire us to follow.
“Although the Methodist Church is popular for singing without instruments, I decided to make a difference after realising that many people enjoy instruments.”
One of the songs, “Kawerewere”, is a dedication to the group’s late bassist Munyaradzi Madhibha.
“His departure was so sudden that we decided to honour him in song,” he said.
In the song “Kawerewere”, Tsuro is reminding people that life is just but a shadow, which just vanishes without notice.
In “Wadarirei” the musician blames the human body for causing mankind to perish without seeking God while following earthly things.
Some of the songs such as “Panyika Ino” have got a reggae feel to them, making them quite danceable.
Some of the songs that fans should look forward to include “Pamuwonde”, “Kutaura Taura” and “Panyika Ino”.
Already the group has two videos from their first album, “Marambadenga” and “Kufamba Nemi” that are being screened on Zimbabwe Television Prime Gospel Show.
The new album was recorded at Lytton Studios
Simbaravapostora – Ndomira NaJesu
This is the second album by apostolic music group Simbaravapostora after their 2009 debut offering “Mirira Nguva”.
The Kuwadzana Extension-based outfit has put extra effort into their work as evidenced by the quality music they have produced.
Recorded, marketed and distributed by Diamond Studios, the 10-track album is laden with spiritual songs whose full import is evident right from the opening song “Ndabvuma”.
The track is a plea to God for forgiveness.
“Nguva Iri Kupera” reminds people that time is not on people’s side and they should make hay while the sun still shines by repenting.
God’s forgiving heart and how He blesses those who listen to Him make up the gist of the song “Mwari Wekupa”.
“Jesu Mutungamiri” tells the story of how Jesus Christ is the way and the light while “Tsamba Yomoyo”, “Daira”, “Tenzi Werunyararo”, “Mukana” and “Ndomira NaJesu” are some of the songs to look forward to on the album.
Formed in 2000, the 11-member group faced numerous challenges in recording their music until fellow musician Douglas Mandaza came to their rescue by assisting them to record.
“It took us nine years to finally record our music and when we did piracy was one of the challenges we faced on our first album “Ndomira NaJesu” which we recorded at Track Records after Mandaza assisted us,” group leader, Robson Samuel, said.
Killon Manyika – Ini Dhu-u-u
For lovers of sungura music, this is one artiste to give an attentive ear as he is gifted with a unique style in the genre.
Known by his stage name “Chekas”, the Chitungwiza-based musician and his group Makuwerere Sounds have a bright future in music circles if this album is anything to go by.
Their desire to come up with quality music has seen them joining one of the country’s leading recording firms, Metro Studios, and the result is this six-track album.
The album is enhanced by the bass-guitar strumming skills of young guitarist Tafadzwa “Duzura” Goredema, who has a bright future if he maintains that standard.
Songs to look forward to include “Kupara Mhosva” that shows the ugly side of committing crimes because the long arm of the law will eventually catch up with the culprits.
Manyika shows maturity in his messages especially on the track “Wandakatadzira” which captures the voice of a person asking for forgiveness from someone whom he or she wronged.
The title track “Ini Dhu-u-u” announces Manyika’s arrival on the music scene, while “Muvatambire”, Zvakandirwadza” and “Mubvakure” make up the rest of the playlist.
Munyaradzi “Mupostori” Muchetu – Fambai Mumweya
Here is one man who needs no introduction to music circles having been in the industry for several years.
Those who know the song “Vanondivengera Postori” will remember Muchetu for his fast-paced beat and powerful lyrics while to others he might be familiar for his active role in the Chitungwiza Central Hospital Benefit Concert where he is one of the pioneering artistes.
Muchetu has this time around bounced back with a seven-track album titled “Fambai Mumweya”.
As has become the norm, the musician makes sure that his songs capture the attention of the listener.
Muchetu maintains his “Bheriya” music trademark, which makes his songs danceable while on the other hand he makes sure that his message is hard-hitting.
The opening track “Sorry Sorry Mambo” – that has already become a favourite with many radio listeners – is a plea for forgiveness.
The title track “Tinofamba Mumweya” shows the virtues of walking by the spirit and having faith in God, while “Mwari Anokomborera” is about the blessings that come to those who believe in God.
“Satan Wajaira” chides the devil while the closing track “Muchandivengera Postori” is a continuation from his famous song “Vanondivengera Postori” about how someone becomes the target of hatred because of his or her faith.
The album was recorded at Ngaavongwe Records, who are also marketing and distributing it.
