NEW: Mutare’s depressed water supply

Municipal Reporter

MUTARE is experiencing depressed water supply across the city after a major burst on a mainline at Pungwe, which has affected production at the Odzani Water Treatment Plant.

The disruption in water production has resulted in low supply of the precious liquid around the city.

In a notice to the public this morning, the local authority said repair works on the mainline have already started and are expected to be completed today.

“Notice is hereby given to all residents and stakeholders of Mutare that due to the major burst on the 750mm Pungwe mainline, there shall be depressed water supply city-wide. The repair of the 750mm mainline greatly affected the water production at the Odzani Water Treatment Plant and our reservoirs are critically low.

“As a result, some customers have already started to receive low pressure and others have no water at all due to the disruption of water production at the treatment plant,” reads the notice.

City of Mutare said the situation is expected to start normalising tomorrow and urged people to use water sparingly.
