CHEVRONS fast bowler Richard Ngarava remains a huge doubt to start in Zimbabwe’s second ICC T20 World Super 12 match against Pakistan on Thursday.
The match starts at 1pm local time.
The 24-year-old seamer twisted an ankle during Zimbabwe’s Super-12 match opener against South Africa on Monday.
Although he has made progress in his recovery, he is now set for a late fitness test.
Chevrons skipper Craig Ervine said Ngarava had enough rest and is set to be assessed by team doctors before the match.
“We have got a training session this evening (Wednesday), and we will see how he warms up.
“And the game is on tomorrow (Thursday), it’s quite some time for him to recover,” said Ervine.
With the Australian conditions seemingly favouring seamers, and in the event that Ngarava fails the fitness test, he will probably be replaced by Bradley Evans.
“That would obviously be a straight swap, seamer for seamer. We will have to look at a few different combinations and probably take it from there,” Ervine added.
Ngarava has so far claimed two wickets for 22 runs at the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup.
Ervine reckons that facing the Asians won’t be an easy task.
“I am pretty sure Pakistan will be coming hard for us. The first five or six overs with the new ball has been challenging for every team. It’s a key area to get through,” he said.
Despite carrying two wins in the white-ball format in the last two years against Pakistan, Zimbabwe are yet to record victory against the Asians at an ICC tournament.
