The Republic of Nicaragua officially opened its Embassy in Zimbabwe today, marking a significant milestone in deepening diplomatic relations between the two countries.

The inauguration ceremony, presided over by Foreign Affairs and International Trade Deputy Minister Sheila Chikomo in Harare, was a testament to the growing solidarity between Nicaragua and Zimbabwe, particularly in the face of sanctions imposed by Western countries on both nations.

Speaking at the event, Deputy Minister Chikomo emphasised the significance of Nicaragua’s heightened foreign policy focus on Africa.

“The Government of Zimbabwe continues to hold Nicaragua’s principled leadership in very high esteem and will always cherish the strong bonds of friendship between the two countries and their people,” she said.

Nicaragua Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Ms Nadeska Imara Cuthbert, said collaboration can transcend borders.

“We are looking at meaningful exchange in trade, culture, education and technology.  In the area of trade and investment, we see tremendous potential for cooperation based on the rich natural resources and a diverse economy that presents a wealth of opportunities for investors,” she said.
