The National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) has appointed Ms Respina Zinyanduko as its substantive general manager.
Ms Zinyanduko, who becomes the first woman to hold the role, has been acting GM since the death of Mr Joseph Mashika in January this year.
In a statement, NRZ said the appointment came into effect on December 1, 2021.
“Her appointment is in line with the approval of President Mnangagwa as provided for in terms of Section 17(2) of the Public Entities Corporate Governance Act (Chapter 10:31) as read with the Railways Act (Chapter 13:09),” the statement read.
NRZ is poised for a turnaround, as it has returned to providing commuter services through its partnership with ZUPCO.
Recently, NRZ signed a deal with a Turkish construction firm, Yapi Markezi, which will be rehabilitating railway tracks across the country.
The agreement will also see the sourcing of new locomotives for the NRZ.
