POPULAR Mutare song composer, Chamunorwa Ringisai, who died in the city yesterday after battling an undisclosed chronic ailment, defied his physical handicap to become a prominent figure in local entertainment circles, a close friend has said.
He was 63.
Ringisai was heavily involved in music and at one time was the band manager of local outfit Zimbabwe Clear Sounds.
He was well-known for composing Roman Catholic Church songs and had nine compositions to his name.
His close friend, Albert Dhafana described him as a down-to-earth man who never allowed fame to get into his head.
“Mukoma Chamu, as we affectionately called him, was a gifted music composer who combined words well to weave them into melodies. Some of his compositions were popular at Roman Catholic priestly ordinations and he could also direct the church choir with aplomb.
“His talents also inspired his family and relatives to come up with their own compositions. He was very humble and we will forever cherish all his contributions to music and the church,” said Dhafana.
Dhafana said Ringisai’s death was not only a blow to his family and music fraternity, but a huge loss to the the local community as well because of his dedication as an advocate of mainstreaming disability issues into the development matrix.
Funeral arrangements will be announced in due course.
