THE Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) has removed names of 96 284 deceased people from the voters’ roll in line with provisions of the Electoral Act.

The exercise is a continuous process.

In a recent interview with The Sunday Mail Online, ZEC spokesperson Commissioner Jasper Mangwana said: “So far, the Commission has gazetted 96 284 deceased voters who have since been removed from the voters’ roll.

“During the process of cleaning the voters’ roll, the Commission has picked 186 220 entries that need some corrections, which include standardisation of addresses and minor typographical errors.

“These anomalies have been gazetted in terms of Section 35(2) of the Electoral Act, which compels the Commission to inform the public about any alterations it makes to the voters’ roll in respect of names of persons affected by the alterations as well as the nature of the alterations.”
