NEW: Pilot census this month

The Zimbabwe National Statistics Agency (Zimstat) will conduct a trial run this month for its new paperless and computer-assisted personal interview technique in preparation for the national population and housing census in April next year.

Zimstat director-general Mr Taguma Mahonde said 31 000 tablets have so far been delivered for use during the pilot census.

“Zimstat will conduct a pilot census from the 18th of this month to the 27th with the use of tablets for data collection instead of the previously used paper questionnaires.

“The purpose of the pilot census is to test if the system is effective so that in April when we do the deployment, we will know that we have a working system,” he said.
