ZIMBABWE Republic Police (ZRP) and media practitioners in Manicaland have expressed satisfaction with their working relationship and pledged to deepen their already strong relations.
Speakers during a Police and Media Interface meeting held today in Mutare, national police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said Manicaland has not witnessed cases of harassment of journalists, at least in recent years.
“I am happy that we have not had cases of harassment of journalists in Manicaland. We have been to places we had to douse flames but the situation is different here in Manicaland and we hope that it will even improve further,” said Assistant Commissioner Nyathi.
Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA) Zimbabwe Manicaland chairperson, Ngoni Dapira echoed Assistant Commissioner Nyathi’s sentiments, saying: “We are happy that here in Manicaland we have been engaging our counterparts in police even outside national engagements like the one we have today. We will continue in that direction and hopefully that will help both sectors – journalism and security – in execution of their duties.”
The police-media engagement meeting held in Mutare today is the sixth and the remaining three provinces are Mashonaland Central and East as well as Harare Metropolitan.
