A Harare woman has sought the court’s protection from her co-wife, whom she accuses of harassment.
Fortunate Manhiri sought a peace order against Mutsawashe Chapwanya at the Harare Civil Court.
Manhiri accused Chapwanya of assaulting her and sleeping with her husband in the presence of their children.
“She is very violent and makes a lot of noise when she gets intimate with my husband in the presence of our children. I want her to stop coming to my house and avoid meeting my husband,” Manhiri told the court.
She expressed concern over her children’s well-being, highlighting that they are being exposed to sexual activities at a young age.
In her defence, Chapwanya denied the allegations, accusing Manhiri of being jealous and failing to accept her as her husband’s second wife.
“I got married in 2021 and l am currently living with Manhiri and our husband. She is just jealous, and she gets violent when it is my turn to get intimate with our husband; she comes and pours water on the bed,” Chapwanya said.
Magistrate Ms Meenal Naratam granted Manhiri a peace order and warned Chapwanya against being violent.
