The Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe has commissioned Midlands State University to conduct a comparative assessment of the Zimbabwean telecommunications sector.

The authority’s director general Dr Gift Machengete said: “The objectives were to establish the status of the Zimbabwean telecommunications sector compared with other countries, focusing on factors that can attract investment into the sector and into the country.

“It also seeks to establish any major economic, social and political developments that may help in understanding country-specific differences for recommendations to our sector.

“The exercise was meant to understand regulatory efforts made in those countries to specifically attract investment and to enhance competition so that we can implement best practices in our sector.”
