President Mnangagwa has sworn in a tribunal to investigate High Court Judge Justice Thompson Mabhikwa on allegations of gross misconduct.

A three-member panel chaired by Retired Justice Maphios Cheda has been given five months to investigate the judge.

Other members of the tribunal are Mr Chaka Mashoko and Mrs Phillipa Magnify Phillips.

Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Permanent Secretary Mrs Virginia Mabhiza will serve as secretary to the tribunal.

The President made the proclamation under Statutory Instrument 170A of 2021 gazetted on Thursday.

He decreed that the tribunal “investigate into the matter of Honourable Justice Mabhikwa’s conduct, whether it can be deemed to have been tantamount to gross misconduct; to investigate whether or not the Honourable Justice Mabhikwa: committed acts of sexual harassment; possessed pornographic material.”

It is alleged that Justice Mabhikwa was allegedly involved in an intimate affair with a member of his support staff in Bulawayo.

Nude pictures and WhatsApp messages allegedly from the judge’s phone recently circulated on social media.
