A NEW private school in Bulawayo is set to open its doors to the public at the beginning of the school’s first term, a development that is expected to ease congestion in public schools.
Charlestone Trust Primary School which is located in Nkulumane, has already started enrolling pupils and they are expecting 24 per class.
The school is owned by a trust which is called Charlestone which is a family trust of local citizens.
In an interview, the school’s administrator, Miss Berverley Manyiwa, said Charlestone Trust began construction early last year.
“So far, we have managed to finish the ECD section, therefore in January we are going to be having five classes which will include ECD A, ECD B, Grade One, Grade Two and Grade Three.
“The primary section which will cater for the upper Grades Four and Five will be phased in starting from second term and these Grade Fives will be our first Grade Seven candidates,” said Miss Manyiwa.
She said the general staff are Nkulumane residents.
“We are employing locals but for the teaching staff we will be looking for the most qualified although our first preference will be people from Nkulumane and so far, we have employed five teachers. By so doing we are trying to empower locals because this is their school. We are going to employ more people as we are looking into building a secondary school in 2021,” said Miss Manyiwa.
She said the school was well equipped with computers. They also offer music lessons, swimming and there are indoor and outdoor sporting activities.
“We actively embrace technology and our desire is to have an iPad for each learner in the classroom. The school has a registered nurse who will always be available for the overall health and safety of learners,” said Miss Manyiwa.
Some of the workers expressed great joy about the jobs that they have recently acquired.
“I am happy that as Nkulumane 10 residents we finally have a school of our own and personally I am happy because most of us here are locals who have been unemployed for years but this school has brought light into our lives,” said one of the workers.
