The private sector officially launched its  Covid-19 vaccination programme in Harare on Thursday.

The initiative was led by CIMAS, which is the programme’s technical partner and health advisor.

Speaking at the event, Health and Child Care Deputy Minister Dr John Mangwiro said the private sector has played an important role in complementing Government’s efforts to combat Covid-19.

“The private sector has supported the ministry’s Covid-19 testing initiatives, promoted and implemented the preventative and treatment protocols laid down by the ministry in line with the World Health Organisation,” he said.

CIMAS chairperson Mrs Emma Fundira said the programme marked “the beginning of the private sector vaccination rollout”.

However, vaccinations had already begun in the sector.

The exercise is being held in partnership with business member organisations that include Confederation of Zimbabwe Industries (CZI), Bankers Association of Zimbabwe (BAZ), Chamber of Mines of Zimbabwe (CMZ), Insurance Council of Zimbabwe (ICZ), Zimbabwe Council for Tourism (ZCT) and the Zimbabwe National Chambers of Commerce (ZNCC).
