Luck ran out for a Harare man who solicited a bribe from Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage Minister Kazembe Kazembe to help him jump the queue at the Registrar-General’s Office on Thursday morning.
Minister Kazembe had joined scores people queuing at the RG’s Office to apply for civic documents before the unidentified man approached him and offered assistance with jumping to the front of the queue.
The minister offered and paid the man a US$30 “bribe” before alerting law enforcement officers who arrested him.
Minister Kazembe confirmed the incident while presenting oral evidence before the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Defence, Home Affairs and Security Services.
“Some unfortunate guy sold me a place,” he said.
“He didn’t know who I was and I paid US$30 and unfortunately he is now in the (police) cells.”
