NEW: PSL charge Mangwiro for misconduct

THE Premier Soccer League (PSL) have come down hard on Harare City coach, Taurai Mangwiro, and fined him US$1 250 for misconduct.

This follows utterances he made in the aftermath of his side’s Chibuku Super Cup first round exit last weekend.

Harare City were sent tumbling out of the tournament, after a 2-0 defeat by Chicken Inn at Luveve.

Mangwiro was charged for the remarks he made in which he accused referee, Thabani Bamala, for biased officiating.

The gaffer claimed that the referee had given the Gamecocks an unfair advantage by awarding them a free-kick that led to their opening goal.

“It’s small little things that make a difference in the game; you saw me being bitter about what I thought was not a foul and it’s what gave Chicken Inn the ascendancy.

“From the resultant re-start they go on to score and it upset our rhythm,” said Mangwiro after the game.

PSL chiefs were not amused by the public criticism of the referee and slapped Mangwiro with the fine.

“Harare City FC coach Taurai Mangwiro has been charged with misconduct following comments he made in the media after his team’s Chibuku Super Cup first round match against Chicken Inn FC at Luveve Stadium on Saturday 20 August 2022.

“Mangwiro was fined a sum of US$1 250,” reads part of a statement from the PSL’s communications officer, Kudzai Bare.

The PSL urged the top-flight coaches to air their grievances in writing to the league.

“The PSL reminds clubs to adhere to rules and regulations and desist from making remarks that imply bias on the part of match officials and bring the game into disrepute.

“We reiterate that official complaints regarding match officiating should be submitted to the PSL,” said Bare.

Having been knocked out of the Chibuku Super Cup, a tournament they won in 2015, Harare City will on Saturday shift focus to their battle against Premiership relegation, when they host stubborn Bulawayo Chiefs at the National Sports Stadium.

Mangwiro’s men are without a win in four matches in all competitions.
