THE Premier Soccer League (PSL) has fined log leaders FC Platinum’s coach Norman Mapeza and Manica Diamonds gaffer Johanisi Nhumwa US$1 250 each for making offensive comments.
The duo was charged with contravening Order 13 of the PSL Standing Orders Offences and Fines, which make it an offence for a player or official to make comments in the media or social media “implying bias, question the integrity or any comments that brings the league and/or its sponsors into disrepute, or are abusive, offensive and/or insulting.”
Mapeza, who saw his team’s eight-match winning streak come to an end after a draw against Dynamos at the National Sports Stadium, felt officials had contributed to the result.
“It’s a point gained for us, but there was nothing to talk about save for the soft free-kicks that were given to Dynamos,” said Mapeza in his post-match interview on Sunday.
His comments came barely 24 hours after Manica Diamonds coach Nhumwa described the match officials’ decisions in their one-all draw against Herentals at Vhengere Stadium as poor.
“I think we should have won the match. It would have happened, but because of decisions by the referee (it didn’t happen).
“Those were poor decisions. It is so pathetic. If this is the (kind of) officiating, then that is not football.
“It seriously needs us to get into the new technological means of officiating,” said Nhumwa in his post-match comments.
